Global sharing of books and reading. A wonderful adventure

A little while back I talked about sharing a blog with a lovely librarian, Pippa Davies, who I met through Scoop.it one day when she posted something about older children reading picture books. An idea started to grow that it would be exciting to share books with others across the world and as Pippa is in Canada and I am in Guernsey it looked like it was something that could be possible.

We decided to share the Kate Greenaway short list which are the best picture books published in the UK in 2012 and also the Chocolate Lily Shortlist also for their illustrations. As it was difficult for the Canadians to get hold of our books we bought a set and posted them so we could all see the same books.

Pippa and I then set up a blog so that the students could share their thoughts about these book. Have a look and see what transpired Teambookreviews.blogspot.com

Last Wednesday we arranged a virtual classroom get together. We went back to school at 6pm and the Canadian students signed in at 10am. There was lots of talk about the books we had looked at and a lot of 'talk' through messenger which meant that everyone could take part. Here are some pictures that were taken on the day/night :)

For more information please look at this article written by the HCS Learning Commons which gives the canadian view of what we did.

Guernsey students 6 pm looking very serious.......

Canadian Students looking more chilled out.

My thanks to everyone who took part in this adventure. It would not have been possible without you all. I look forward to doing it again next year.
